There are days when I sit by myself and think long and hard, what happens when we die? Do we see that blinding light so oftenly portrayed in movies? Do we turn into shooting stars? Or will our souls dissipate into a cloud of nothingness?
The mere thought of never going to be able to listen to a song, read a good book, or simply enjoy someone's company ever again frightens me. We will be stripped of the right to feel and emote, losing all our senses and conciousness, eventually losing ourselves. Not being able to feel love and hate is depressing, as they are the very reason of our existence. It's what makes you, you.
As we take our very last breath, our memories become specks of dust, and in turn, we become someone else's distant memory, fading through time. Slowly slipping away, we inevitably grasp at the little things that will hopefully leave a trace of us, however small.
Death is not fearful. Oblivion is.
